Area Activites

Fire Mountain is located in the middle of “Highlands Outdoor Playground”. We are surrounded by the best of Highlands’ outdoor experiences. Highlands Canopy Tours, a soaring zip line experience, is one minute from our entrance on scenic NC 106. Sky Valley Resort Championship Golf Course is three minutes from our entrance. The famous Bartram Trail is just a few miles to the west of us. Highlands Outpost is on your way into the village of Highlands just a few miles down the scenic highway from our entrance providing ice skating, snow tubing in the winter and trout fishing and the Scaly Screamer Alpine Roller Coaster in the summers for all ages with the Blue Hound BBQ that overlooks everything so that the parents can hang while the kids play. Jogging and mountain biking here at Fire Mountain on our hundreds of acres that connect to other jogging and mountain biking areas and directly into the Nantahala National Forest. Fire Mountain offers a variety of trails and hikes to wondrous places, and all types of mountain terrain. Each trail may be experienced individually or combine one or more of the trails and discover the enchanting nature Fire Mountain has to offer. Each trail head is marked by a large stone and a smaller white stone:

Happy Hill Loop Trail – Enjoy a gentle, half mile walk around the hospitality part of the Fire Mountain property. All of the trails at Fire Mountain can be accessed from this loop trail. 0.5 miles

Take Moss Rock Trail and walk deep into the lush Fire Mountain Forest in the footsteps of the Cherokee. 0.3 miles

Climb high to the top of Happy Hill and look over rolling mountains into the Land of the Red Thunders. From this vista you can see the highest peaks in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. 0.1 miles

Meander the Woodlands Trail along the babbling brooks and the many natural springs (15 to be exact) that create the Fire Mountain pond and our waterfalls. 0.2 miles

Go quietly down to The Waterfalls and listen to the ancient voices of rushing waters that tell the story of these mountains, rich with myth and mystery. 0.7 miles one way
