Maintaining, supporting
and evolving the successful vision of Fire Mountain comes
as a result of many "great talents". Most of our
"great talents" are staff members at Fire Mountain.
Some are what we call "Spirits of Fire Mountain".
All of these "great talents" comprise the magnitude
of the vision that it takes to keep Fire Mountain evolving
every day of every year.

Fire Mountain
Betty “Jodie” Raby
Food & Beverage / Housekeeping Manager
- her talents brought Fire Mountain a 100% rating by our
North Carolina / Macon County Health Department for the
two years of 2009 and 2011.
- she is truly "one of a kind"
- a real mountain spirit of the highest level
- dedicated
- a "great talent" of the highest order
- educated and experienced and a true professional
above all
- known by most of our guests as "Chef Jodie"
Jodie's
highest accomplishment at Fire Mountain has been the phenomenal
evolvement of Fire Mountain cuisine. Thanks to Jodie's creativity
Fire Mountain offers gourmet box lunches and bento box dinners
using much of the bounty produced on our own land. Many
of our guests keep coming back each year because the Fire
Mountain cuisine continues to evolve each year. Jodie certainly
receives most of the outstanding credit for this continuing
evolution at Fire Mountain.
Each
month Jodie receives notes of thanks. Recent guests
wrote in October of 2011:
"Jodie,
Thank you for your gracious hospitality and wonderful breakfasts.
Thank you also for your warm smile, great laugh and for
sending us on our way each and every morning with a full
and satisfied stomach. We also have a few new recipes
to try when we get back to Virginia. Fondly, Christine
& Rob"

Spirits of Fire Mountain
When the Prince Charles Foundation of England wanted
to contribute a lasting memorial to the Olympics of 1996 in Atlanta,
Georgia they commissioned Martin Dawe, Sculptor
to create a lasting memorial for the world at a most prominent
pointe in Atlanta. Historic Pershing Point at the intersection
of Peachtree Street and West Peachtree Street in Atlanta became
the location and focus. The sculpture is a 150 feet tall stone
obelisk with six bronze men holding up the world. This sculpture
is truly a beacon to the world.
We are very proud to have the work of Martin
Dawe in the private art and sculpture collection at Fire
Mountain. Portions of the collection are available for the viewing
and enjoyment our guests while at Fire Mountain. You will find
portions of the collection displayed in The Gallery, which is
a separate building that is part of the Fire Mountain Inn. You
will also find original art from the collection throughout the
common areas of the Inn and in your accommodation at Fire Mountain.
The contemporary art collection at Fire Mountain includes artist
and sculptors from George Siegel to Isamu Noguchi.
Martin Dawe was commissioned to
create the birdbath/sun dial sculpture on the rustic tree stump
that you will see upon your arrival at Guest Services and Reception.
